Temporary, part-time faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of students in achieving their educational goals. As one of the largest community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, career, and technical education programs. These part-time positions are on an as-needed basis and applicants should live within commuting distance to Orange County.

Under the general supervision of the Dean or Department Chair, the Part-Time Adapted Kinesiology Instructor teaches adapted kinesiology courses designed to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities. The instructor provides specialized instruction in adapted movement, fitness, aquatics, strength training, perceptual motor development, balance, and related adapted activities, in accordance with approved course outlines and college policies.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in assigned adapted kinesiology (e.g., adapted aquatics, adapted weight training, balance and coordination, cardiovascular fitness, adapted sports, and outdoor recreation.
  • Prepare and deliver course content aligned with approved curriculum and student learning outcomes.
  • Assess student performance and progress; provide meaningful feedback and grade assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and current class records, including attendance, grades, and required documentation.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and remain current in adapted kinesiology pedagogy, inclusive teaching strategies, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain regular and consistent contact with students; hold office hours as required by district policy.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and equity-minded classroom environment that supports diverse learners, including those with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities.
  • Comply with all district, college, and state regulations regarding instruction, academic policies, and student services.
  • Report assessment data on student learning outcomes, administrative unit outcomes, and/or student services outcomes.
  • Utilize the results of student learning outcomes assessment to make improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Follow the regulations, policies, and procedures of the college and district as published.
  • Complete all program/college/district reporting deadlines on time.
  • Complete and submit required documents in a timely manner.
  • Make use of technology and learning materials that are current, support the lesson, and enable students to engage with the material.
  • Establish and maintain a framework for regular and sustained contact with/among students if teaching distance education courses.
  • Teach classes during the scheduled time and at the assigned location.
  • Meet workload obligations.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • May participate in curriculum review and program development.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, on-line and/or off-campus classes.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must meet one (1) of the following qualifications under (a) through (c) AND 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in adapted physical education:

(a) Master's in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR

(b) Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR

(c) A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of (a) or (b) above. Applicants submitting an application on the basis of equivalency must thoroughly and completely answer all of the equivalency questions, in addition to providing all other required materials.

Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.
