DESCRIPTION

Antelope Valley College invites applications for our adjunct (Temporary, part-time) faculty applicant pool for the following Ethnic Studies Instructor.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Instruct students in the assigned discipline
  • Assignment may include teaching courses during the day, evening, on-line courses and/or off-campus sites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters in ethnic studies field
  • OR
  • A Master's in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African American Studies
  • OR the equivalent
  • Academic Senate's approved equivalency: Equivalency approved May 2, 2024

Bachelor's degree in any academic discipline AND 12 semester units completed in graduate level course work in Ethnic Studies or related field AND Master’s degree in at least one other interdisciplinary area including American Studies, Women's Studies, Filipinx Studies, Cultural Studies, Political Science, Sociology, English, History, Education, Psychology, or Art

AND Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students.

DESIRABLES:

  • Professional and pedagogical expertise in Ethnic Studies with specialization in African American Studies OR Chicana/o Studies OR Native American/American Indian and Indigenous Studies OR Asian American Studies.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing and implementing equity-centered classroom policies and practices that support students identified in the intersections of historically underserved populations in higher education.
  • Experience teaching courses in an Ethnic Studies program or department, within a community college environment is preferred.
  • Experience in community engagement inside and outside the classroom and active participation in professional activities.
  • A record of student advocacy working with and advising students outside the classroom.

  • Residency within a reasonable geographical area of the college may be necessary.
