The Department of Clinical Sciences at the newly established Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston is inviting applications for the position of part-time Adjunct Faculty - Clerkship Director for Emergency Medicine.
This non-tenure track faculty physician position that will contribute to the educational mission of UH College of Medicine through development of the curriculum for the emergency medicine clerkship and oversight of the student experience. Specific duties include the following:
Primary Responsibilities
Educational Mission
- Works with the ACE director to create, implement, and enhance the Emergency Medicine Clerkship experience.
- Develops clerkship curriculum and teaching materials including the course syllabus, learning objectives, clerkship activities and requirements, and corresponding assessments.
- Participates in planning, developing, and delivering clerkship didactics.
- Works in collaboration with the ACE director to recruit, develop, and retain preceptors and sites to ensure effective clinical education experiences for all students.
- Assists with matching students to clerkship sites and addresses concerns as needed to ensure an effective learning environment.
- Assists as needed in the development of the community of clinical preceptors across all phases of the curriculum.
- Oversees the assessment process and completion of final grade forms for the emergency medicine clerkship; monitors required clinical experiences (RCEs), grades clerkship assignments, and provides mid-clerkship feedback and narrative assessment to students.
- Conducts workshops and seminars for medical students, trainees, and faculty.
- Evaluates clerkship teaching faculty and teaching sites, including regular communication and site visits with preceptors.
- Evaluates all aspects of the clerkship and recommends and implements changes as appropriate.
- Participates in clinical duties in their specialty, including precepting medical students.
- Serves on College of Medicine curricular committees as assigned.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
- Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine
- Board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine
- Emergency Medicine Clinical privileges within HCA Houston Healthcare such as HCA Kingwood, HCA North Cypress or DHR in McAllen
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching medical students and residents
- Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Chinese
Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD/DO from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate(s). Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine, and the Office of the Provost. All positions within the University of Houston System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Physician applicants are required to provide documentation of current licensure and board certification as part of their application materials.
