Position Summary:

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Manhattan University seeks outstanding applicants for a part-time Adjunct Professor for the Mental Health Counseling Master’s Program.

This search is open to candidates specializing in all areas of Mental Health Counseling with special consideration given to those candidates with expertise in the areas of 1) ethical and professional training, 2) mentoring students in practicums and internships, and 3) using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.

An M.S. in Mental Health Counseling or a related field is required, with a strong preference for candidates who hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate experience in teaching and advising master's-level students.

The Mental Health Counseling program is a 60-credit program (blended model with a mix of online, in-person, and hybrid courses), approved by New York State since 2012. Given an increased focus from New York State on social and emotional learning and mental health programming for students, agencies, and families, the roles of mental health professionals have never been more important. Manhattan University is well positioned to meet this call in developing mental health professionals. The Counseling and Therapy programs at the University have strong and intimate relationships with the surrounding communities in the Bronx, NYC, Westchester, and New Jersey presenting opportunities for collaborations around teaching, research, and service endeavors.

Manhattan University offers degree programs in the liberal arts, business, education, engineering, and science. The University has approximately 3,500 full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in over 40 fields of study and is committed to excellence in teaching a diverse student body and preparing students for successful careers and fulfilling lives.

Responsibilities:

It is the responsibility of the adjunct instructor to provide content for and teach assigned courses. Courses that may be assigned include but are not limited to:

  • Techniques in Counseling & Therapy, Physical and Psychopharmacological Aspects of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Methods of Educational and Psychological Research, and Data Analysis and Report Writing in Educational & Psychological Research.
  • Other classes (electives, special topics, etc.) may also be available to teach depending on the adjunct professor’s areas of expertise and the department’s needs.
Qualifications:
  • Must have earned a M.S. or Ph.D/Psy.D., or equivalent in Mental Health Counseling, or related area.
  • Hold New York State Licensure as a Mental Health Clinician or related license.
  • Outstanding clinical training, experience and supervision skills.
Physical Requirements: Some light lifting associated with setting up computers, document cameras, or other hardware needed for conducting a mixed in-person plus remote class.

Salary Range Based on Experience:
  • Instructor $1477.28 per credit
  • Assistant Professor $1526.25 per credit
  • Associate Professor $1575.65 per credit
  • Professor $1625.04 per credit
