SALARY: Minimum salary is $1,397 per credit hour. Actual salary is commensurate with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Part-Time Adjunct Faculty member for the Nutritional Science & Diet Technology program is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in nutrition and dietetics-related coursework in a lecture, in-person, online, and/or hybrid format. This position delivers rigorous, outcomes-based instruction aligned with industry standards, institutional policies, and emerging best practices in nutrition education and supports the academic mission of the program.
The adjunct faculty member will provide instruction in a range of nutrition-focused courses, including but not limited to nutrition across the lifespan, community nutrition, food safety, sanitation and cost control, and foundational nutrition. In addition, they will contribute to the program's efforts to maintain and advance quality standards in preparation for accreditation. This role requires professional expertise in nutritional science, effective teaching strategies, and a commitment to serving a diverse student population, including traditional and non-traditional learners from varied cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds.
The position reports to the appropriate academic administrator and works collaboratively with full-time faculty and departmental staff to ensure consistency, academic integrity, and continuous program improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and deliver high-quality instruction in nutrition-related courses, including but not limited to nutrition across the lifespan, community nutrition, food safety, sanitation and cost control, and nutrition fundamentals.
- Provide instruction using a variety of teaching modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats, in alignment with institutional and departmental standards.
- Prepare and maintain course materials, syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and grading in accordance with established curriculum and accreditation requirements.
- Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely, constructive feedback to support student success and retention.
- Maintain accurate academic and attendance records consistent with institutional, federal, and state reporting requirements.
- Use the institution's learning management system and other instructional technologies to support effective course delivery and communication.
- Maintain regular communication with students, faculty, and academic leadership regarding course expectations, performance, and progress.
- Support departmental initiatives related to program development, curriculum review, and continuous quality improvement, particularly in preparation for accreditation processes.
- Participate in required meetings, orientations, and professional development activities as assigned.
- Uphold academic integrity, classroom management standards, and institutional policies.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for a diverse student population.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Public Health Nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: nutrition across the lifespan, community nutrition, food safety, sanitation and cost control, or foundational nutrition.
- Ability to teach effectively in in-person, online, and/or hybrid instructional formats.
- Basic proficiency with learning management systems and instructional technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to serving a diverse and inclusive student population.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD).
- At least 1-2 years teaching experience at the community college or postsecondary level.
- Industry or clinical experience in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or food systems.
- Experience with curriculum development and outcomes-based education.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards relevant to nutrition and dietetics programs.
- Experience teaching adult learners and supporting non-traditional students.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education.
