Olympic College is seeking Adjunct Faculty for the Surgical Technologist Program. The Adjunct Faculty - Surgical Technology Program is responsible for providing quality instruction to students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. This position plays a key role in preparing students for careers as surgical technologists by delivering engaging coursework, hands-on skill training, and clinical supervision. The faculty member will work closely with the Program Director and other faculty to ensure compliance with accreditation standards through ARC/STSA (Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) and CAHEEP (Committee on Accreditation of Health Education Programs) and institutional policies.
Essential Functions
- Provide instruction in Surgical Technology courses, including lecture, lab, and clinical settings.
- Develop and deliver course materials that align with program objectives, accreditation requirements, and industry standards.
- Assess student performance through exams, practical demonstrations, and competency evaluations.
- Supervise and mentor students during clinical rotations to ensure proper skill development and adherence to patient safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and evaluations in accordance with college policies.
- Assist with curriculum development and program assessment to maintain accreditation compliance.
- Stay updated with advancements in surgical technology and integrate new best practices into instruction.
- Participate in faculty meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Provide academic advising and support to students as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Surgical Technology accredited by a recognized programmatic accreditation agency;
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA);
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology or a combination of both within the past five (5) years;
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of curriculum and program evaluation of student learning and performance;
- Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices; and
- Proficiency with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suites, and learning management systems (LMS).
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Prior teaching experience in higher education, particularly in a community college setting.
- Experience with curriculum development and accreditation processes.
- Experience in clinical coordination or supervision.
