Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for an instructor in Workforce and Professional Development.

The non-credit instructor for the Apple Foundation Program is responsible for classroom instruction in the Workforce and Professional Development Department. This includes organizing, preparing for each class, consulting with, and advising students, and assessing student learning. The instructor will report to the Director of Workforce and Professional Development in the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development.

Schedule: Some hybrid work may be available as determined by the department. Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with supervisor at time of hire and may change based on departmental needs and the College's operations.

The most successful candidate will have a career that reflects the following:

  • Earned associate degree or relevant Certificate from a regionally accredited institution; OR Certificate of Completion of the Apple Developer Academy; OR equivalent professional experience required.

If applying for a coding role:

  • Must have knowledge of one or more programming language (e.g., Java, C/C++, Objective-C, Python, or Swift).
  • Must have iOS Ecosystem familiarity with SwiftUI and UIKit.
  • Must have formal coding experience: demonstrated job experience or training in a coding-related field (e.g., higher education courses, training, certifications, online courses, etc.) or combination of education and experience.

If applying for a design role:

  • Must have knowledge of UX and UI principles.
  • Must have iOS Ecosystem familiarity with iOS Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Must have formal design experience: demonstrated job experience or training in a design related field (e.g., higher education courses, training, certifications, online courses, etc.)

If applying for a business/project management role:

  • Entrepreneurial experience.
  • Knowledge of the role of business development with current organizational structures, management philosophies and processes, as well as new and emerging business trends impacting businesses, including international/global business, e-business, and social networking.
  • Evidence of engagement with the business community in entrepreneurship and new venture management.
  • Ability to promote the development of critical and constructive thinking, while encouraging students to analyze, design, develop and execute solutions for real-life problems.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Current communication technologies, i.e., Android and iOS.

Additional Unique Competencies include:

Reporting directly to the Director of Workforce and Professional Development and working collaboratively with the CIS, Cisco, and Cybersecurity department, the non-credit instructor will:

  • Uphold the best scholarly and ethical standards of his or her discipline.
  • Make a reasonable effort to foster honest academic conduct and ensure that his or her evaluations of students reflect each student's performance.
  • Demonstrate respect for students as individuals and foster a respectful atmosphere in the classroom or an online learning environment.
  • Treat all students with respect and fairness without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, weight, height, marital status, familial status, protected disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation or belief or any other status protected by law.
  • Demonstrate mastery of course material, come to class prepared to teach the days lesson (including preparing all handouts, exams, or other materials before the start of class), and present the material conscientiously.
  • Make himself or herself available for student consultations and provide guidance to students to promote student learning and success.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and final presentations as scheduled.
  • Be informed of the Colleges support services for students and recommend their use, when advisable. Make every reasonable effort to attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Behave appropriately in dealing with students and staff to maintain a scholarly and professional atmosphere.
