Duties & Responsibilities:

The Robertson School of Communication at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks experienced and dynamic adjunct instructors to teach hands-on courses in its Media Production sequence. The successful candidate will bring practical experience in video production, video post-production, visual effects editing, audio production, scriptwriting, documentary, media entrepreneurship and emerging media platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare course syllabi, assignments, projects, and assessments in alignment with departmental standards.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
• Hold virtual or in-person office hours as required.
• Engage students through active learning strategies and real-world media practices.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge in media trends, tools, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Media Production, Film, Communication, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated professional experience in media production (film, television, digital media, or audio).
• Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent training experience.
• Proficiency with industry-standard production and editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools).

Preferred Qualifications

• MFA in Film/Media Production or related discipline.
• Experience teaching in hybrid or online formats.
• Strong portfolio of professional or creative work.
• Ability to support diverse learners and foster inclusive classroom environments.

Salary Range: $1,437 per credit hour

FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
