Adjunct Lecturer - Communications and Performing Arts (College Now Program)
The College Now Program at Kingsborough Community College seeks Adjunct Lecturers to teach the following courses:
HUM 1: Modern Humanities: Arts and Ideas (3 credits, 3 hours, open to junior and/or senior students): Explores literature, drama, art, and music in today's world, placing 20th century developments into a historical context and illustrating the continuity of culture. This class is in addition to the teacher's regular NYCPS workday. Teachers are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction, and related events.
MCF 40: Film: The Creative Medium (3 credits, 3 hours, open to junior and/or senior students): Introduces key elements of cinematic form including narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, and acting through viewing and analysis of select films. This class is in addition to the teacher's regular NYCPS workday. Teachers are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction, and related events.
MCM 30: Mass Media (3 credits, 3 hours, open to junior and/or senior students): Analyzes mass media to discover how information is perceived and influences behavior, using film and video resources to examine message systems in books, news, radio, film, television, advertising, and social media. This class is in addition to the teacher's regular NYCPS workday. Teachers are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction, and related events.
THA 50: Foundations of Theatre Arts (3 credits, 3 hours, open to junior and/or senior students): Provides a thorough understanding of theatrical form, focusing on the relationship between theory and practice, creative/production roles, major artists, and movements. Students analyze dramatic literature and attend a live performance. This class is in addition to the teacher's regular NYCPS workday. Teachers are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction, and related events.
Qualifications:
- For HUM 1: A baccalaureate or graduate degree (master's preferred) in Humanities (Art, English, History, Literature, Music, Speech and Theatre, etc.), with a minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.
- For MCF 40 and MCM 30: A baccalaureate or graduate degree (master's preferred) in Communication (Communications and Performing Arts, Mass Media, Speech and Theatre, etc.), with a minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.
- For THA 50: A baccalaureate or graduate degree (master's preferred) in Theatre Arts or related field, with at least three years teaching experience preferred.
Compensation: $91.67 - $98.40, salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. CUNY offers competitive benefits including health insurance, pension, paid parental leave, and professional development support.
