University of California Los Angeles
Requisition Number: JPF10912
The UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences are seeking a highly motivated and innovative full-time Adjunct Professor (junior to mid-level) to join the Departmental and Institute faculty and leadership team. The successful candidate will lead efforts to develop and implement a program of research and clinical innovation focused on mobile cognitive screening technologies and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tools to enhance psychiatric assessment, monitoring, and treatment within the UCLA Health system.
The primary focus of this position is to advance the development, validation, and health system integration of digital and mobile cognitive assessment platforms that enable scalable, real-time monitoring of cognitive and behavioral health outcomes across diverse psychiatric populations. The candidate will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across psychiatry, neuroscience, data science, and health informatics to deploy AI-enabled analytics that leverage mobile data streams, electronic health records (EHR), and digital phenotyping approaches to improve diagnostic precision, treatment planning, and longitudinal care.
In addition, the candidate will work with departmental leadership to build academic, clinical, and industry partnerships that support the translation of emerging technologies into routine psychiatric practice. This includes collaborating with UCLA Health clinical services and informatics teams to establish implementation pipelines for mobile cognitive screening tools within outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care settings.
The candidate will also contribute to the development of training initiatives focused on digital psychiatry, computational methods, and AI applications in mental health care, preparing the next generation of clinicians and scientists to use advanced technologies to improve psychiatric outcomes. This role will involve mentoring trainees and supporting interdisciplinary educational programming related to digital mental health innovation, clinical data science, and technology-enabled psychiatric care.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Data Science, or a closely related field, and should have a strong background in psychiatric research, digital mental health innovation, teaching, and mentorship. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in the development and implementation of technology-enabled approaches to psychiatric assessment and care, including mobile health platforms and artificial intelligence-based analytic methods. Essential skills include curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration, digital health implementation, and strong written and oral communication skills.
Applicants must have documented skills and experience in:
- Designing and implementing digital mental health initiatives, including mobile cognitive screening or monitoring tools, to improve psychiatric assessment and clinical outcomes across diverse populations.
- Applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, or advanced analytic methods to behavioral health data sources, including mobile health data, electronic health records, and other digital phenotyping platforms.
- Leading interdisciplinary teams in the development and implementation of innovative psychiatric care programs, with an emphasis on scalable, technology-enabled solutions that improve access and quality of care.
- Establishing academic, health system, and industry collaborations to support the translation of emerging technologies into routine psychiatric practice.
- Developing educational and professional training programs focused on digital psychiatry, computational mental health, and AI applications in psychiatric care for psychiatry residents, psychology trainees, and other health professionals.
- Mentoring graduate students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career investigators in research and clinical innovation related to digital mental health and technology-enabled psychiatric care.
- Engaging in national and international collaborations and professional activities, including travel as needed, to advance the Institute's mission of research, training, and dissemination of innovative approaches to improving mental health care.
