SUNY Geneseo, New York’s public honors college, is seeking an Interim Dean of Students (the Dean) for the fall academic term, and potentially, for the full academic year. Reporting to the Vice President for Student and Campus Life, this leadership role is integral to the success of the division, overseeing essential areas for student support and thriving. Additionally, the Interim Dean will have the exciting opportunity to serve as a thought partner to the Vice President and assist in the strategic revisioning of the Division’s structure and priorities, laying a strong foundation for the future.
The Dean provides administrative leadership to the Center for Community, which includes the following offices: Leadership and Service, Fraternal Life and Off-Campus Living, Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement, Student Employment Services, and Student Conduct and Community Standards. The Dean also will be expected to help adjudicate and provide supervision over student conduct cases as part of this portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a mediator, adviser, and knowledgeable resource for Geneseo students
- Collaborates with the Department of Residence Life, Student Health and Counseling Services, and University Police to advocate and support student
- wellness and safety
- Provides leadership, guidance, and support in crisis management and intervention. Actively engages in addressing critical incident response; ensures that behavioral assessment, care coordination and case management meets national best-practice standards; co-chairs the campus CARE Team with the Student Case Manager
- Facilitates communication between students and relevant faculty, staff and administrators regarding challenging issues that affect a student’s well-being and impacts their enrollment status
- Serves as the chief student conduct officer; adjudicates Level I and II conduct cases and serves as an Appellate Officer for Level I Campus Judicial/Student Conduct cases
- Presides as a Chair of the All-College Student Conduct Board
- Coordinates with the Student Accounts and Financial Aid Offices regarding student aid, billing, and refunds
- Serves as the principal Student and Campus Life liaison for emergency response procedures and maintains accessibility and responsiveness in emergency situations
- Manages the State and Geneseo Foundation budgets, if available, for the Dean of Students office and the Center for Community
- Serves as a member of the Geneseo First Response (GFR) Board of Directors, if convened
- Serves as a highly visible and accessible leader working in collaboration with
- academic affairs, to promote a healthy, productive and supportive campus environment
- Supports the functional areas in the Center for Community and ensures student outcomes through consistent assessment measures
- Maintains and upholds College/Student and Campus Life Policies, Procedures and Publications, and the Student Handbook web pages
- Coordinates campus compliance with all relevant state and federal laws and regulations involving students (e.g., privacy law (FERPA), etc.)
- Assists with facilitation and training for students, faculty and staff with various College officials (e.g., sexual harassment prevention), as requested
- Provides advice and counsel to the Vice President for Student and Campus Life on student-related matters; serves as the division liaison on various college committees

Required QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling or related degree, doctorate degree preferred
- At least five to seven years of progressively responsible higher education leadership
- Demonstrated experience in crisis management and protocols, including serving on behavioral risk management teams
- Significant experience adjudicating and investigating conduct cases including training and developing student conduct hearing boards
- Demonstrated understanding of trends and best practice efforts in student affairs
- Strong administrative record of accomplishment in areas of operation, human resource management, legal issues and technology
- Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA and Clery Act compliance
- Ability to work with a diverse student population
- Possesses strong oral, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to think critically and possesses sound judgement
Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in student affairs leadership at the dean level or higher
- Experience with Maxient – conduct management software
- Knowledge and experience with Title IX hearing panels and investigations
