Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Admissions is responsible for attracting, admitting, and enrolling eligible students, in accordance with university policies. The unit facilitates the development, implementation and monitoring of academic policies, practices and procedures to meet goals related to student progression, performance, and graduation. The office collaborates with other campus units in coordinating student transition initiatives that lead to positive adjustment, academic success and persistence to degree completion.
Description of Work
The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Associate Director of Admissions in achieving the overall mission of recruiting, admitting, and enrolling undergraduate and graduate students and student athletes. The position is responsible for counseling prospective students and their families about the different programs of study available at Elizabeth City State University. The position will have the authority to independently admit and enroll students and provide appropriate guidance through the enrollment process.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills; possess strong organizational and analytical skills; must possess good public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate an adequate knowledge of current education practices in higher education and trends for high schools, community colleges, and colleges and universities, with particular emphasis on recruitment and admissions; must be knowledgeable of academic programs offered and admission requirements.
Must be proficient in the Banner Student Module, Internet Native Banner, AdmissionPros, Self-Service Banner and Microsoft Word applications.
Be able to travel four to six weeks (non-consecutive) during fall and three to five weeks during spring semester.
Possess the ability to travel overnight and work some evenings and weekends.
Minimum Training and Experience
Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a heavy co-curricular involvement while in college. A valid driver’s license is required.
