Admissions Specialist
Position Summary
Located 45 minutes from the Nations Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The individual in this position is part of a team that provides excellent customer service to the tri-county area and is the voice of the college for all contacts. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Admissions Specialist represents the college by interacting with prospective students, new and current students and with the local and college community utilizing various platforms, with an emphasis on phone and email communication. The incumbent runs reports for recruiting/admissions events and call campaign purposes using the Customer Relations Management software (CRM). The incumbent represents CSM at recruitment/welcome events as needed and provides campus tours/visits for prospective students and their families and performs a variety of functions to support current students. This position is journey level, requires some work experience, and performs non-routine work.
Reports to: Associate Director, AOD
The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range advertised. This position is open until filled.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
50% Customer Support and Admissions Guidance
- In a call center setting, provide exemplary customer service and basic advisement to students at all stages of the enrollment cycle (from prospect to enrollment) through telephone, email, in-person, and other communication channels.
- Acts as an internal recruiter for CSM by reaching out and maintaining relationships with prospective students in a way that establishes a trustful rapport, educating prospective students on CSM programs and admissions requirements, assisting students from application to enrollment, and helping students overcome potential barriers within the enrollment process.
- Guides prospective students through their decision-making process by engaging in a consultative dialogue to explore student needs and concerns, presenting information in a professional, articulate, and confident manner, and effectively communicating the value proposition of the institution.
- Provides basic information to the college and local community regarding upcoming events and campus locations.
40% Administrative Support
- Handles various administrative functions of the Admissions Office, including processing residency documentation, conducting student demographic information changes, processing applications, etc.
- Creates Excel reports/spreadsheets for student orientation, advisement, and registration events as well as admissions outreach.
- Implements the colleges communications plan for prospective students utilizing Customer Relations Management (CRM) software and utilize the CRM daily by accurately tracking and maintaining all interactions with prospects and applicants.
10% Event Support
- Coordinates and facilitates on–campus tours and visits for prospective students and community groups
- Represents the college at recruitment events and other events that relate to the enrollment goals and objectives of the institution (i.e. open houses and registration events, high school fairs, Maryland College Application Campaign, high school senior interviews, etc.).

Minimum Education and Training
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree required
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Internal
Three (3) years full-time experience as an Admissions Specialist I with the College of Southern Maryland or bachelors degree plus two (2) year full time experience as an Admissions Specialist I with the College of Southern Maryland - External
Three (3) to five (5) years of full-time related work experience in college admissions preferred
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, ability to work independently and with a group, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, peers, and community
- Effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.

Full-time employees must promptly disclose in writing, on a form available from the Human Resources Office, to the college all other full-time employment or its equivalent in independent consulting.
