Reporting to the Dean of Adult Education, the student support assistant provides general information and services to students and the general public relating to Adult Education inquiries and requests for information at the {Greensboro or High Point Campus}. The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact to students, instructors, staff, and the general public. The Student Support Assistant is required to work independently exhibiting initiative to ensure efficient daily operations as well as positive collaborations with a wide range of internal and external college constituencies to support the unit effectively. The incumbent will provide information about the program, new student orientation, expectations of the students, registration, assessment, and classes to students, staff, and community members. The incumbent must have excellent customer service and communication skills.
Min Salary
$36,520.50
Mid Salary
$41,085.57- We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate's experience level and qualifications related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience
Duties/Functions
Difficult Challenges
- Dealing with frequent interruptions while still maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Deal with limited resources (fiscal, human, supplies, etc.)
- Communication with a variety of people. including internal and external audiences
- Providing support in the management of student issues (behavior, health, emergencies)
Contacts
- Daily: Dean or Associate Dean of Adult Education and Program Directors
- Dail : Adult Education employees, students & general public
- Weekly/Monthly: Maintenance, Student Support Services, Information Technology, Public Safety and other departments as needed
Education Required
- Associates Degree in Business Administration, public relations, Office Management or related field, or a High School Diploma/ GED and at least four years’ of related customer service or administrative experience.
Education Preferred
- Bachelors degree in Office Management or related field
Experience Required
- Two years of related administrative experience and a proven record of progressively responsible experience in administrative functions, including evidence of experience in the following areas:
- Thorough knowledge office practices, procedures,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and experience using word processing, developing spreadsheets, developing presentations, and using database software applications (as determined by pre-employment testing)
Experience Preferred
- More than two years of recent progressively responsible experience providing administrative support
- Experience in an academic setting
- Recent experience with an enterprise student information systems (e.g, Colleague, Advansys)
KSA Required
- Knowledge of administrative procedures and practices
- Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices
- Skilled in effective communication (both written and oral)
- Skilled in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
- Skilled in positive, productive and flexible customer service.
- Ability to apply effective & accurate data entry and typing skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships.
- Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position.
KSA Preferred
- Experience communicating with students who speak limited English and/or Multi-lingual
