This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered. NPs are directed to apply to job # 267964 and PAs are directed to apply to job # 267965. A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening. The Taubman Medical Specialties Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the home for the Gastroenterology Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program. Our IBD program is internationally recognized caring for thousands of patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis each year. We are a multidisciplinary team providing expert patient care and innovative research with the goal of improving the quality of life to our patients. We are seeking an APP to join our team who is compassionate, patient centered and dedicated to providing high quality care to the patients we serve.

Completes comprehensive patient histories and physical exams. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic studies. Provides prescriptions and instructions for medications/medical supplies as necessary. Initiates, adjusts, and monitors various IBD therapies, including immunomodulators and other medications. Provide pre-procedural risk assessments on patients with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and chronic diarrhea. Coordinates patient care including clinic, consultations, pre-op evaluation, inpatient follow up, complex procedure work-up, testing, referrals, post-ops, virtual care, and long-term follow-up/management of patients. Collaborates with the faculty and multidisciplinary team on patient’s plan of care incorporating nutrition, psychology, education and research specialist. Reviews possible risks of proposed procedures, obtaining consent (including blood, photography and optional tissue research). Establishes priorities and a mutually acceptable plan of care to maximize the health potential of the individual patient. This includes delegated medical functions as designated in clinical privileges. Educate patients and families regarding their disease, treatments, related drug(s) and treatments. Documents all relevant data according to clinical and regulatory standards. Manage inbox messages and cross cover for other providers on service.

Organizational Relationships and Practice Environment: Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive medical supervision from the IBD Medical Director or their designee. Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive administrative supervision from the APP Manager.

NP: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan. Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Current AHA Approved BLS certification. Current DEA registration required. Three (3) years’ experience practicing as a nurse practitioner. One (1) year experience as an APRN working within an ambulatory care setting.

PA: Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required. Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current AHA Approved BLS certification. Current DEA registration required. State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required. Three (3) years’ experience practicing as physician assistant. One (1) year experience working within an ambulatory care setting.

NOTE: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process. NOTE: In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment. RESUME REQUIRED (for both internal & external applicants): You must attach a complete and accurate resume to be fully considered for this position. One (1) year APP experience working with IBD patients. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills measured by references and interview. Demonstrated success working within a multidisciplinary team model measured by references and interview. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision measured by references and interviews. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process. Full time- 40 hours per week. Shift: Standard schedule is Monday – Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, possible evenings. The schedule is subject to change based on the clinical operational demands where the employee practices. This position is blended with in person clinic visits and virtual visits.
