Electrical Engineering-Sensors Research Fellow (Hybrid)

The College of Innovation and Technology is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for a full year (12 months). The position is focused on LiDAR sensors and sensing systems. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Alsharoa on cutting-edge projects involving the application of LiDAR and other sensor modalities in real-world environments, including smart system, healthcare monitoring, and activity recognition. The candidates will have opportunities to work with outstanding collaborators at all three University of Michigan campuses.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
- Design, implement, and evaluate LiDAR-based experiments in lab and real-world settings.
- Develop and test algorithms for object detection, tracking, and classification using LiDAR sensors.
- Help guide and mentor graduate students and other junior team members working on the project.
- Publish research findings in top-tier journals and conferences.
- Assist in proposal development and grant writing.
- Ensure that all research is conducted in an ethical manner and in compliance with safety standards and data protection regulations. This includes managing sensitive data correctly and guaranteeing that machine learning applications are developed with ethical considerations in mind.
- Participate in regular meetings with the research group.
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience working with LiDAR sensors, point cloud data processing, and sensor integration.
- Strong background in signal processing, computer vision, or machine learning.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C++, and MATLAB.
- Strong publication record in relevant research areas.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
