Advanced Practice Professional (Nurse Practitioner) D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion: Cardiac Intensive Critical Care Area

A total of (1) one, 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.
The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities.
Under physician supervision, directs and coordinates care in the cardiac intensive critical care area. Care provided is for the adult patient population, including but not limited to NSTEMI/STEMI, advanced heart failure, pre- and post-heart transplant, and mechanical circulatory support. Some of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) duties include (not an all-inclusive list)
- Complete detailed histories and physicals, daily progress notes, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, and discharge orders/documentation.
- Responsible for primary Code Team Coverage in the Pavilion
- Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.
- Order tests/prescribe medications.
- Present pertinent data to the medical staff and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout Cardiovascular Medicine, including thorough and accurate hand-offs.
- Procedures include point-of-care ultrasound for physical assessment, placement of arterial lines, central venous catheters, and placing NG tubes/dobhoff.
- Confer with attending physicians and collaborate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate and communicate clinical care needs both inpatient and outpatient, and internal/external care providers.
- Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of medical principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws, andState and Federal laws/regulations.
- Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development.
- Adhere to all Michigan Medicine dress codes, personnel, and safety policies.
- Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction utilizing service excellence and Patient Family Centered Care in daily practice.
- Ability to demonstrate good computer skills, including computer documentation and order entry.
- Demonstrates ability to function independently and as a team member, working collaboratively with others.
- Demonstrates clinical leadership and experience with coordinating and managing complex patients and providing safe handoffs to the next provider.
- Demonstrates expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others through previous clinical instructional roles.
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate effectively as a patient advocate.
- Demonstrates commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, sensitivity to diversity, and sharing knowledge with team members.
Nurse Practitioners
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
- Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Current DEA registration
- AHA BLS and ACLS certified
- 1 year full time APP experience rounding in an ICU or inpatient cardiology or advanced heart failure service
Physician Assistants
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- Current DEA registration
- AHA BLS and ACLS certified
- 1 year full time APP experience rounding in an ICU or inpatient cardiology or advanced heart failure service
NOTE:
* Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications:
- Procedure experience including but not limited to arterial and central line placements
- 1 year APP experience working on a Rapid Response/Code team
- Demonstrated proficiency as an APP with hemodynamic assessment and ECG interpretation
- Certification in one or more areas of cardiology: CCKE, HF-Cert, CHFN-K, ABCL, or CHC
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult cardiac physiology
- Demonstrated ability to articulate in an effective and clear manner, the pertinent clinical issues to the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational abilities.
- Demonstrated Patient and Family oriented Care

Night/Day and Weekend Rotating Shift Position with a variable schedule
