Job Summary:
Instructors of Clinical Practice are clinical faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Network of Care (NOC) Urgent Care Departments in Colorado. In this role, instructors will provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric patients. They will perform history taking, physical examinations, define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis with treatment and disposition plan.
100% Clinical Effort
You will be expected to maintain 1.0 cFTE (clinical effort). Urgent Care Clinical Practitioners at 1.0 cFTE will be expected to provide coverage for 1520 hours. All clinical hour obligations are negotiable with the Section Head at any time. This coverage will consist of Children's Hospital Colorado, Urgent Care locations. Coverage will include:
- Pediatric urgent care
- Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system for unanticipated absence)
- Clinical Faculty in the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Network of Care (NOC) and Emergency Department provide medical care to acutely ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents; perform history and physical examinations; and define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis, treatment, and disposition.
- Clinical coverage includes days, evenings and weekend shifts based on CFTE. Clinical hours will also include major and minor holidays allocated proportionately.
- Expected attendance at section meetings: At least 75% of the monthly Section meetings
- Maintain Colorado State certifications based on requirements of a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant.
- Maintain skills in urgent/emergent care of children by completing the following: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, Scheduled Acute Care Education sessions, Participation in 1 high fidelity code simulation per academic year, Other technical seminars as deemed mandatory by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the Medical Director

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Pediatric Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
- Active Colorado NP or PA license
- Current DEA or ability to apply
- Current PALS Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years' experience in pediatric acute care environment (OR completing a Pediatric Residency program with significant experience in Urgent Care and electives and/or extra-clinical activities that demonstrate clear interest in pediatric urgent care)
- Experience teaching medical students and residents
- POCUS trained
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge: Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injuries, Understanding familiarity with resources to assist making clinical decisions and diagnosis.
Skills: Use of electronic medical record (EPIC), Teaching of medical learners. Technical skills required may include the following based on your credentialing with CHCO: Initial interpretation of plain radiographs, Laceration repair, Minor Incision and drainage, Nerve blocks, Foreign body removal, Reduction of minor digit fractures of joint dislocations, Acute respiratory care, ECG interpretation, Medical Screening Exams.
Abilities: Work efficiently in a fast-paced, acute care environment for 8-10 hours at a time, Ability to handle stressful situation with professional composure, Promote teamwork amongst providers, nurses, techs, learners and other colleagues, Strong communication and interpersonal skills, Knowledge and skill in customer service delivery, Well organized and efficient, Skill in prioritizing patient and system needs, Knowledge of quality improvement, family centered care, and evidenced-based practice, Work a mix of days, evenings, weekends.
Condition of Employment: Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado, Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check.

Anticipated Salary Range: The salary range for this position has been established for a 1.0 FTE at $100,000 to $140,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
