Agricultural Research Technologist 2

As the Agricultural Research Technologist 2, you will conduct laboratory based experiments that will involve the use of a wide range of serological and molecular techniques such as Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for virus detection and characterization. You will maintain plants under controlled environmental conditions in growth rooms and greenhouses. You will perform bio-assays for maintaining and propagating viruses on model plants and crop plants. You will use tissue culture to generate plants including the use of meristem tissue culture and micropropagation and apply appropriate testing methods to ensure the health status of the Tissue-Cultured (TC)-derived plants. You will also collect, analyze data, and prepare progress reports on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in the applied, biological, chemical, physical OR agricultural sciences, AND one year of experience as an Agricultural Research Technologist 1; OR equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in carrying out virus detection methods including Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
• Demonstrated experience in tissue culture techniques including meristem tissue culture and micropropagation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge about plant viruses and methods for their detection and characterization.
• Maintenance of virus cultures on plants in contained environmental facilities.
• Hands-on experience in aseptic techniques for generating and maintaining tissue culture-derived plants.
