Position Information:

Under the direction of the R'Garden Faculty Director, and in consultation with the Office of Sustainability, the R'Garden Manager provides services for the UCR R'Garden. This one-acre farm sits on a central location in the university and serves as a hub for university-level courses, research, service learning and a variety of student-led initiatives. The R'Garden Manager will oversee daily activities of the R'Garden and coordinate activities of student interns.

The full salary range for the Agricultural Technician, Senior is $23.28 - $31.99 per hour. The expected pay scale is up to $25.19 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements

• Highschool diploma or GED - Required
• Bachelors of Art or Science - Preferred

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience - Required

License Requirements

• Driver License - Required

Minimum Requirements

• Basic computer applications skills.
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task and ensure effective time management.
• Working knowledge in farming and/or landscape/groundskeeping services.
• Ability to perform manual labor and independently lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to lead and organize others.
• Working, effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel.
• Ability to provide plant and pest identification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to communicate in Spanish.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plans schedule of RGarden activities (plot preparation, purchase of supplies, irrigation, planting, plot maintenance, harvesting) - 25%
• Closely oversees day to day activities of the RGarden, including maintenance of facilities and equipment and routine landscape/grounds keeping operations - 25%
• Trains and supervises interns and fellows to maintain an orderly, safe, and efficient grounds operation. Oversees the day to day activities of the interns and fellows. Responsible for monthly safety training meetings, compliance of the University of California required courses, and maintaining Blue Card Training. - 20%
• Works with Faculty Director to plan and implement student-focused activities, including raising awareness about RGarden. Cultivates relationships the City of Riverside and private sector entities. - 20%
• Maintains proper inventory needs and purchase inventory within prescribed budgetary guidelines - 5%
• Ensures safety, hazardous materials and landscape/grounds keeping policies and procedures are adhered to. - 5%
