Position Information:

Dr. Ilana Bennett is seeking a part-time (30 hours/week) Laboratory Assistant to begin in Fall 2025 for a 1 year appointment. Dr. Bennett's research group investigates the effects of aging on behavior and the brain using neuropsychological, cognitive, and neuroimaging data in younger and older adults. The Laboratory Assistant will be involved in multiple aspects of the research, including participant recruitment and screening, data collection, and maintenance of behavioral and neuroimaging data records. Preferred candidates will have a strong research background, with experience recruiting, scheduling, and collecting data from human subjects; and experience working with MRI and older adults. All candidates must have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills. The position is ideal for motivated individuals interested in pursuing an advanced degree in cognitive neuroscience or related fields.

The full salary range for the Lab Assistant is $20.01 - $23.16 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $20.01 - $20.78 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

*** Please note that effective July 2025 the realized minimum pay for this position will be $25 an hour.***

Requirements:

Educational Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma - Required
  • Bachelors degree in psychology or a related field - Preferred

Experience Requirements

  • One year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. - Required
  • Experience recruiting or scheduling human subjects. - Preferred
  • Experience administering and scoring neuropsychological or behavioral tests - Preferred
  • Experience collecting magnetic resonance imaging data - Preferred
  • Experience working with older adults. - Preferred

Minimum Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated background and passion for research experience in psychology or related fields
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work 30 hours/week for a 1 year commitment

Key Responsibilities:

  • 90%: The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for recruiting, screening, scheduling, and testing participants. Recruitment activities may involve sending emails, making calls, posting fliers, or attending community events. Screening and scheduling activities involve asking questions about eligibility and availability via phone or email. Testing activities involve administration and scoring of neuropsychological and cognitive tests and escorting participants to the imaging center for neuroimaging data collection. All testing will be done on the University of California, Riverside campus. The Lab Assistant may also be involved in basic data quality control, such as checking behavioral data for errors or neuroimaging data for artifacts. These responsibilities will be conducted under the close supervision of the faculty lead (Dr. Bennett) and with support from graduate students involved in these projects.
  • 10%: The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for maintaining physical and digital records related to the project under the supervision of the faculty lead. This may involve updating participant and study databases, downloading files from the imaging center, or assisting with paperwork relating to other UCR entities, such as the IRB. They may help order research supplies and equipment.
