Position Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Project Manager. The research project manager (RPM) will provide professional and administrative level lead support for multi-funded and multi-site research studies with a focus on epidemiology, ophthalmic imaging and ophthalmology evaluation, neuroimaging analyses, and dementia neuropathology. The RPM will be responsible for the coordination and administration of these research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The RPM will develop, implement, and coordinate research and administrative procedures for the successful management of the research projects. The RPM will perform diverse duties that include overall administrative and research support for the PI and co-investigators, writing and editing reports, developing and monitoring reports, submitting/maintaining IRB applications, processing/maintaining the budget, working with collaborating institutions and other national and international project collaborators, and training/directing the work of assigned staff in related areas as needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages research, core projects, and training and/or dissemination of programs. Leads research projects and manages staff performing all project components.
  • Provides technical and managerial expertise associated with the implementation of studies and projects.
  • May participate in the development of research grants and contracts.
  • Provides oversight for accounting functions and financial oversight of project budgets and all expenditures. Provide support to the school’s grants in support of the center work.
  • May supervise staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

More About This Job

Preferred Experience:

  • MPH, MS Epidemiology, MEOH or related graduate degree.
  • Ophthalmic research experience.
  • 4-5 (minimum 4) years of experience with human subjects research management preferably in an academic or healthcare-related setting, and preferably in health services and outcomes projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise managing large and/or multiple research projects.
  • Research administration experience (e.g., post-award fiscal experience, sponsor management).
  • Multi-site project management experience.
  • Multi-investigator team management experience.
  • Prior experience in research grant and scientific writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of HIPAA, IRB and related institutional requirements for the conduct of research.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret, teach, and comply with varying requirements by funding agencies, human subjects boards (IRB), FDA regulations, and other regulatory and oversight bodies.
  • Broad understanding of hospital systems, inpatient and outpatient healthcare patient care, and how to embed research projects within these settings.
  • Familiarity in statistical methods and analysis software.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical data and imaging research.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills; public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day oversight.
  • Ability to manage teams and ability to meet deadlines under tight time constraints; Exceptional customer service skills.

Salary Range

$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
