Are you passionate about anatomy and looking for a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic laboratory environment? Macquarie University is seeking an Anatomy Dissection and Laboratory Assistant to join our Anatomy Laboratory team within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS).
In this role, you will undertake dissection of human cadaveric specimens and provide vital technical and operational support for the delivery of teaching and dissection activities across our Anatomy Laboratories. Working alongside academic, research, and clinical staff, you will play an essential role in ensuring our approximately 2,000 anatomy students each year have access to high-quality, well-prepared laboratory experiences across four Anatomy labs and two sites.

About the Role
Reporting to the Anatomy Laboratory Manager, you will provide hands-on technical support for the preparation and maintenance of anatomical specimens and laboratory spaces. Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking dissection of embalmed human cadaveric specimens to support teaching and learning activities.
- Preparing and setting up anatomy laboratories for practical classes, ensuring all required specimens, equipment, and materials are ready.
- Supporting students' wellbeing during their wet lab classes.
- Maintaining, preserving, and cataloguing anatomical specimens in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the safe and compliant operation of the laboratory environment, including adherence to workplace health and safety standards.
- Providing operational and logistical support of four Anatomy labs across two sites.
- Collaborating with academic, research, and clinical staff as well as students to ensure a positive and effective learning environment.

The faculty's current education suite includes courses in clinical science, physiotherapy, chiropractic, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise that incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and specialty clinics. We have active research programs in neuroscience, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others.
The Anatomy Laboratory team supports the organisation and delivery of Anatomy teaching for the Faculty and University for approximately 2,000 anatomy students across four Anatomy labs and two sites.
About You
You are a detail-oriented and practically skilled individual with a strong interest in human anatomy and a commitment to supporting excellence in education. You thrive in a hands-on laboratory environment, work well both independently and as part of a team, and are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in anatomy, biomedical science, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience,
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge in human anatomy and dissection, including complex dissections,
- Strong practical laboratory skills, including specimen preparation and preservation, alongside a commitment to related workplace health and safety practices,
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines,
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, clinical staff, and students,
- Ability to work sensitively and respectfully with human cadaveric material in accordance with ethical and regulatory requirements, and
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, image editing, and database applications.
Desirable Criteria:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the NSW Anatomy Act 1977, NSW Human Tissue Act 1983, and other relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks,
- Experience in supervising and supporting students,
- Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Note: This position requires a National Police Clearance Check and evidence of compliance with Category A immunisation/ vaccination requirements as a condition of employment.
