Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Analytical Chemistry Technologist (Chromatography) to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.

The Analytical Chemistry Technologist (Chromatography) will enable research and provide solutions to academic and industry clients through delivery of expert services to, and training of, end-users. The Analytical Chemistry Technologist (Chromatography) will provide expert user and technical support in Chromatography Analysis and associated equipment.

Research Infrastructure includes the university’s Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF). CARF hosts a range of characterisation, analysis and ‘omics’ capabilities, underpinned by $30M of cutting edge technologies in microscopy, mass spectrometry, DNA sequencing, etc. These capital investments are effectively leveraged with a dedicated team of about 35 research fellows, specialists, and technologists. CARF is predominantly located within the Science and Engineering Centre with additional nodes at the Gardens Point campus and distributed sites.

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to a degree with subsequent relevant experience in the relevant technology area.
  2. Evidence of exceptional performance in applying analytical chemistry expertise through efficient management of available resources under minimum supervision.
  3. Evidence of extensive experience in one or more of specialised technology areas (Green House Gas analysis; Carbon Nitrogen and Sulphur analysis; ion-chromatography; and/or isotope ratio mass spectrometry. 
  4. Demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills in support of brokering collaborations with both internal and external stakeholders as well as promoting connectivity with industry clients. 
  5. Evidence of innovative approaches to problem solving and contribution to an agenda of continuous improvement in operational processes. 
  6. Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of policies and procedures (including ethics and intellectual property) associated with the establishment of research and commercial projects in a university context.
