"Anthropology Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)"

Position Details

Diablo Valley College seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Anthropology to start in Fall 2026. The successful applicant will teach introductory courses in Anthropology, including Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, and lecture and laboratory courses in Biological Anthropology.

We are looking for a colleague who demonstrates discipline expertise and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students, with a commitment to social and racial justice and anti-racist pedagogies.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Advancing equitable student learning through exemplary instruction.
• Participating in assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Collaborating in curriculum development and program review.
• Engaging in department and college committees.
• Participating in professional development.
• Maintaining current knowledge and standards of professional conduct.
• Informing students of requirements, grading assignments, maintaining records.
• Holding office hours and participating in shared governance.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters in anthropology or archaeology, OR Bachelors in anthropology or archaeology AND Masters in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology. Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds required.

1. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and student learning at college level.
2. Proficiency in teaching college-level anthropology.
3. Sensitivity to diverse community college students.
4. Experience in multiple teaching modalities.
5. Commitment to equity and innovation.
6. Culturally responsive curriculum.
7. Shared governance participation.
8. Work with underprepared students.
9. Masters or PhD in anthropology or archaeology.

Salary

Initial salary placement from $68,136 to $112,848 per year (Up to $132k).
