Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowships are dedicated to training and recruiting advanced practice providers (APPs) in surgery and surgical critical care to successfully integrate APPs into a career in surgery or critical care, while improving the life of every patient.
The program is designed for both Physician Assistants and Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioners who are interested in a career in surgery or critical care. The fellowship is ideal for new graduates who wish to pursue a career in surgery or critical care or practicing APPs who wish to change career focus. The goal of the fellowship is to help APPs smoothly transition into a career in surgery or critical care. Rotations will occur across a variety of clinic settings both at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, and Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO.
SURGERY TRACK (3 Positions)
The focus of this APP Surgery Fellowship Track is to provide surgical didactic and clinical experience across the continuum of care for surgical patients (pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care). Didactic education will include a comprehensive orientation, a variety of skill labs, case presentations and weekly education lectures. Clinical rotations will occur in a variety of surgical subspecialties, including but not limited to:
- Trauma and acute care
- Surgical oncology
- MIS/bariatric
- Breast
- Endocrine
- Urology
- Transplant
- Cardiac
- Thoracic
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedics
- Vascular
- Plastic and Reconstructive
- Surgical Trauma ICU
- Cardiothoracic ICU
This fellowship will provide opportunities for APP fellows to engage in research and quality improvement initiatives within the hospital with the support of UCHealth and University of Colorado Department of Surgery (DOS) faculty and staff.
SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE TRACK (2 Positions)
The focus of this APP Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Track is to provide critical care didactic and clinical experience across the continuum of care for critically ill patients. Didactic education will include a comprehensive orientation, a variety of skill and simulation labs, case presentations and weekly education lectures. Clinical rotations will occur in a variety of specialties, including but not limited to:
- Surgical-Trauma ICU
- Cardiothoracic ICU
- Trauma and Acute Care Surgery
- Burn ICU
- Medical ICU
- Heart Failure/Cardiac ICU
- Palliative Care
- Infectious Diseases
Please note, there is no operative training included in this track.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, and Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO (surgical track only).

Program Goals: The goals for both the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship programs are to educate and train the APP Fellow to be a qualified, well-prepared practitioner of surgery or critical care who can practice at a high level of autonomy and in parallel with standard of care following graduation from the fellowship.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- All applicants must have graduated from a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program or will prior to start of the fellowship; surgical track also open to FNP candidates.
- Additionally, all applicants must have passed or be eligible to take the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification exam or National ACNP or AGACNP or FNP for surgical track

Anticipated Pay Range:
