General Description
Salary: $240,000 - $260,000, with a total compensation up to $330,000
The Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine seeks candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Division of Acute Care Surgery. The applicant should have training and experience in Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and Surgical Critical care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical
Time spent treating patients will consist of evaluation and management of Trauma and Emergency General Surgery patients at our urban teaching level I and level II trauma centers. There are also opportunities for an elective general surgery practice.
Faculty attend in numerous Surgical Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The Surgical ICUs have a mixture of surgical patients including; trauma, transplant, vascular, thoracic, orthopedic, plastic, obstetric, gynecologic-oncology and general surgical services. Fellows are present in the ICUs as they participate in integrated fellowship between the Departments of Surgery and Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.
Academic
Resident, fellow and medical student supervision and instruction are major components of the position. Education is focused on general surgery residents, ICU fellows and Acute Surgery fellows.
Research
Research endeavors will be encouraged and supported. Clinical research and outcome studies are abundant. Our current faculty have close collaborations with the Johns Hopkins Surgery center for Outcomes Research (JSCOR), The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. Numerous faculty are supported with ongoing grants from: NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
They should be certified by (or eligible to be) the American Board of Surgery.
Additional training in Trauma or Critical Care is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well independently to build clinical practice.
Preferred Qualifications: Leadership skills highly desirable. Strong interest in resident and medical student education.
