Asia Health Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026-2027
The Asia Health Policy Program at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) promotes a comparative understanding of health and health policy in the Asia-Pacific region. From its inception, the program has been committed to fostering the next generation of Asia health policy researchers. Each year the program offers a postdoctoral fellowship position to a recent doctoral graduate.
The postdoctoral fellow participates in the program while undertaking original research on contemporary health or healthcare policy of high relevance to low- and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region. We welcome fellowship applications from candidates studying evidence-based health policy using a variety of disciplinary perspectives, such as public policy, public health, economics, demography, sociology, political science, anthropology, law, medicine, health services research, and related fields.
Appointments begin in the fall quarter of the academic year. The fellowships are limited to recent PhDs: applicants cannot be more than three years past the awarding of their doctoral degree (or no more than six years past the awarding of their M.D.) when the fellowship starts. They must have degree conferral and approval no later than June 30 prior to the fellowship start date (that is, no later than June 30, 2026 for 2026-27 fellowships starting in fall 2026).
The 2026-27 AHPP postdoctoral fellow is required to be in residence for the duration of the appointment, present their research findings in Center seminars, and participate in the Center’s publication program. The postdoctoral fellowship is at minimum a 10-month appointment with an annual salary rate commensurate with Stanford policies of $80,000, to be adjusted for the 10-month duration, plus benefits and up to $3,000 for research expenses.
