This is a part-time, temporary position not eligible for benefits.

Work Schedule

25 hours per week, range from 7:00am - 10:00pm, Monday - Friday, possible weekend assignments

Job Summary

Provides ASL/Transliterating interpreting and support services to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Essential Functions

  • Provides interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing consumers which may include facilitating communication between students with hearing loss and their hearing peers, faculty and other personnel
  • Interprets and transliterates in the classroom setting for class related activities, college sponsored events, department faculty meetings and prospective students
  • Designs, formats, and composes original documents, correspondence, and presentations
  • Performs independent needs assessment to determine appropriate interpreting methods and strategies
  • Keeps assigned tools and/or equipment in clean and safe working condition
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • No supervisory responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be Nationally Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certified
  • Possess Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Licensure
  • May possess no degree, AA degree, BA degree, or MA degree

Desired Qualifications

  • Interpreting and transliterating for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Speaking and interpreting in various settings
  • Following directions and meeting standards
  • Preparing basic reports and documents from established information or by following a standard format
  • Composing basic original documents (reports, presentations, manuals)
  • Providing attention to detail in assignments
  • Proofreading and error correction
  • Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands
  • Exercising and maintaining confidentiality
  • Operating assigned tools and equipment
  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and RID standards (based on assignment)
  • Providing customer service
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interactions with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidates own expense
  • May require working remotely
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • Work alternating open and close shifts
  • Remote work when assigned
  • Possible travel between assigned campuses or work sites.
