The Department is seeking a faculty anesthesiologist for clinical service utilizing an anesthesia care team model, teaching of medical students, residents, fellows and allied health professionals, and clinical research. The Department has very active chronic pain, critical care, inpatient pain and pre-operative care services at multiple locations within the health system and is an ideal place for faculty to establish themselves in their career path. UC Anesthesiologists provide comprehensive care before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process. Rank/title commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions

Provide direct patient care.

Related duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Performing preoperative assessments, evaluating patients before surgery to determine the most appropriate anesthesia plan based on their medical history and current health.
  • Administering various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and local anesthesia.
  • Monitoring vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and body temperature, to ensure patients’ stability during surgery.
  • Managing pain relief during surgery, in critical care settings, and for patients with chronic pain conditions.
  • Performing postoperative care by overseeing the recovery of patients from anesthesia, ensuring they regain consciousness safely, and managing any postoperative pain.
  • Handling emergency situations by providing life-saving interventions and support for breathing and circulation.
  • Prioritizing patient safety and comfort.

Teach and train UC medical students and UC Medical Center residents and fellows, UC nurse anesthesia program students, anesthesiology assistant students, and UC Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).

Related duties will include but not be limited to the following, as appropriate to the specific types of trainees noted above:

  • Providing clinical anesthesiology and/or anesthesiology subspecialty training.
  • Delivering didactic lectures on relevant anesthesiology, pain management, and perioperative care topics.
  • Providing simulation experiences exercises for trainees to practice skills such as airway management and emergency response.
  • Mentoring as to complex patient cases and advanced techniques.
  • Providing research oversight.

May design and conduct clinical trials and research studies relevant to anesthesia and/or pain management in collaboration with other medical and research professionals.

Related duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Creating detailed research plans and ensuring they adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Overseeing the implementation of research protocols in clinical settings such as operating rooms and intensive care units.
  • Collecting accurate and comprehensive data; using statistical methods to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Publishing articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.
  • Presenting research results at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Providing education and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows engaged in research.
  • Applying for research grants.
  • Managing research budgets.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, all of the following:

  1. Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.)
  2. Completion of four-year anesthesiology residency
  3. Ohio medical license
