The Department of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix seeks to hire an assistant, associate or full professor. This position reports directly to the department chair.
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences and the College of Medicine - Phoenix is undergoing a significant and strategic expansion in the research enterprise. The department is seeking to recruit new tenure track faculty at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor to complement and enhance the current cadre of highly innovative, collegial, collaborative and well-funded group of faculty within the department and college. The research foci of interest will serve to enhance the existing strengths in the department that include neuroscience, cancer, immune metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Through discovery, education and service, the BMS faculty strive to be leaders in their areas of scholarship. Our blended faculty creates a unique environment to perform cutting-edge, innovative, collaborative and interdisciplinary research aimed at investigating fundamental biological questions and finding solutions to challenges in cancer, immune metabolic and cardiovascular, as well as neurological diseases. Our investigative team also collaborates with clinical researchers to facilitate the development of novel diagnostics, therapies and preventive measures. BMS faculty are engaged in medical and graduate education by developing, delivering and assessing curricula and conduct educational scholarship to support the educational mission of the college.
This position includes overseeing and conducting an independent research program, conducting collaborative and programmatic research with other faculty, publishing findings in peer reviewed journals, pursuing and securing extramural funding and taking on duties and responsibilities that demonstrate strong service to the department and the college. This may include serving on committees, task forces, coordinating, overseeing or assisting in specific aspects of departmental operations. The candidate will attend faculty, lab and subgroup meetings and contribute meaningfully to research projects that will lead to independence as well as those that are collaborative.
The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member within the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, actively participate in teaching and scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.
The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Bring support and energy to developing the innovative and collaborative neuroscience research.
- Support federally funded research programs and publish high impact scientific research in the areas of neural circuitry function, neurobehavior and neuropsychiatric and neurological disease.
- Develop collaborations with pertinent faculty within the College and partner institutions.
- Contribute to the teaching, mentoring and service components of the College's missions in medical and graduate education.
- Research and other scholarly work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Have experience mentoring students and trainees in research projects.
- Have outstanding interpersonal communication and professionalism skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold an MD, PhD or MD/PhD or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in biological sciences, medicine or a related field.
- Exhibit a track record of extramural research funding, high impact publications and teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrate innovation and federally-funded research in neuroscience, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
- Have a strong track record in teaching and mentoring in classroom or laboratory settings.
- Have experience in an academic medical center and medical education environment.
- Exhibit a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals (e.g., Molecular Psychiatry, Journal of Neuroscience).
- Demonstrate experience with in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics and advanced neuroanatomical tracing techniques.
- Have experience serving on the editorial board of a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
