Counseling: Assistant/Associate Professor – Addiction
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a 9-month tenure track position in the Department of Counseling. The department has 15 full-time faculty members and offers a CACREP-accredited Ph.D. and MA counseling program with three program areas (Addiction Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and School Counseling). Successful candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in counseling from a CACREP-accredited university. ABD candidates will be considered if they provide evidence of degree completion by August 10, 2026. All candidates must demonstrate the promise to engage in scholarly research, seek external funding, and help counseling students-in-training develop clinical skills.
Responsibilities:
- Teach, advise, supervise, and mentor students in the MA and PhD counseling programs, particularly students with an addictions focus
- Actively contribute to the continuous development and assessment of the overall addictions program
- Actively engage in research and other scholarly activities in counselor education
- Seek externally funded research grants
- Serve on and direct dissertation committees
- Provide service, outreach, engagement, and leadership in the Department, College, and University
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited university
- Ability to contribute to the CACREP core and addiction counseling specialty
- Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina as a licensed clinical mental health counselor and licensed clinical addiction specialist or licensed clinical addiction specialist associate
- Experience working with a variety of client populations
- Demonstrates promise of excellent teaching
- Demonstrates promise of excellent sustainable research
- Demonstrates promise of excellent service/ outreach/engagement
- Promise of obtaining external grant funding to support one's research
- Involvement in professional counseling organizations
- Teaching experience at the university level (preferred)
