Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology (Ecology)

Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology position with emphasis in any area of ecology. Candidates with field expertise in invertebrate, fungal, and/or plant ecology are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to contributing to the core biology courses, the successful candidate will contribute to the various degree options within our biology program, including the Wildlife Biology and Conservation option. The Department of Biology is located in a modern and well-equipped 64,000 square foot science building and is part of the College of Science and Engineering. Duties: an expected teaching load to average 12 hours per semester; teaching responsibilities will include upper and lower division biology courses (e.g., Principles of Biology I, Wildlife Ecology and Management) and associated laboratories; teaching upper-level electives in the applicant’s area of expertise as well as other core biology courses (e.g., Ecology, Biostatistics); supervising undergraduate research projects; serving on committees; performing scholarly activity; engaging in recruitment, retention, and advising of students and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Biology or related field required by time of employment and postdoctoral experience is preferred; show academic mastery in their area of expertise with university-level teaching experience; demonstrate excellent communication and classroom management skills; ability to engage undergraduate students in meaningful research in the field and laboratory.
