Description:

The School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) within the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Architectural Engineering (ArchE), with emphasis in building materials that advance our commitment to resilient and sustainable infrastructure. The ideal candidate will focus on innovative building systems design using resilient and sustainable materials, particularly those that enhance the durability and adaptability of buildings under changing environmental conditions. Additional emphasis would be on polymers, composites, and coatings that reduce net energy usage and/or emissions throughout the lifecycle of buildings and other human-made structures-from construction through long-term operation.

The successful candidate will serve as a champion for the ArchE program and complement our current strengths. The candidate would be expected to carry on the strong tradition of experimental research at the Donald G. Fears Structural Engineering Lab in civil construction materials and structural systems, including but not limited to concrete, steel, or timber, as well as polymeric composites, coatings, waste-material reuse, and digital manufacturing technologies. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with established and newly hired faculty within architectural engineering, structural engineering, other areas of civil engineering, and/or across other disciplines to tackle large infrastructure challenges. The candidate will also complement the recently launched interdisciplinary Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) graduate program at OU.

CEES offers three ABET-accredited B.S. programs in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, as well as a B.S. program in Environmental Science. The School also offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Science, providing opportunities for advanced study and research. The student enrollment consists of nearly 400 undergraduate students and over 200 graduate students, including a growing online Master's program. Total research expenditures last year were $8.5 million, 44 percent higher than the previous year. Additional information about CEES and the ArchE program is available at https://www.ou.edu/coe/cees.

In support of our ambitious plan for strategic growth (https://www.ou.edu/coe/about), faculty numbers are up over 50% since 2017; incoming students have increased by 34% since 2021; and research expenditures have increased by 140% since 2021. Several new innovative programs support student pathways into the College, and numerous advanced programs prepare students for the workforce and graduate school. The College is expanding its footprint with a new building nearing completion, a second new building funded, and a third new building in the planning phases, with several significant renovations underway as well. Candidates who are excited to contribute to the goals of strategic growth and foster a welcoming environment in all aspects of faculty responsibility-including within the classroom and the academic community, and within their professional commitments-are encouraged to apply.
