Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences (FCS) at Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) at Belmont University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position in Pharmacology. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, mission-driven faculty committed to developing an innovative, integrated medical curriculum grounded in whole-person care and dedicated to the College’s vision of transforming health through compassion and service.
The Assistant, Associate or Professor of Pharmacology will contribute to the academic mission of the medical college through teaching, research, and service. This position involves delivering high-quality pharmacology instruction across the first two years of the curriculum, by integrating pharmacology with other foundational and clinical disciplines to promote a system-based and patient-centered approach. This role is expected to mentor learners and engage in scholarly activities that advance the field of pharmacology. This role will also be participating in curriculum development and departmental initiatives to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Deliver engaging and evidence-based pharmacology lectures, labs, and small-group sessions to medical and health science students.
- Develop, revise, and maintain course syllabi, learning objectives, and assessment tools aligned with accreditation standards.
- Integrate pharmacology content into interdisciplinary courses and clinical case-based learning.
- Utilize innovative teaching strategies, including active learning and technology-enhanced instruction.
- Mentor and advise students on academic progress and career development.
- Conduct original research in pharmacology or related biomedical sciences.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Seek and secure external funding through grants and collaborative research initiatives.
- Supervise student research projects and foster scholarly engagement among learners.
- Stay current with advancements in pharmacology and incorporate them into teaching and research.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees to support governance and strategic planning.
- Contribute to accreditation processes and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional service through membership in relevant organizations and societies.
- Provide leadership in curriculum innovation and program development.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic and research environment.

- Terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) in Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in pharmacology principles and their clinical applications.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or medical school level.
- Commitment to innovative pedagogy and integration of integration of pharmacological concepts with foundational and clinical sciences.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
- Experience in medical education within an LCME-accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Pharmacy-related field.
- Experience in teaching endocrine pharmacology and neuro/psychopharmacology.
- Record of scholarly productivity (peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or educational innovation in pharmacology or related fields).
- Familiarity with pharmacology teaching technologies, such as virtual drug simulation tools, e-learning platforms, and active learning methodologies.
- Experience with curriculum design, assessment, and accreditation processes, particularly integrating pharmacology into systems-based or case-based medical curricula.
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-eligible faculty appointment in the Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Tenure-track faculty are evaluated on performance in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the Belmont University Faculty Handbook and College of Medicine criteria for academic advancement.
Required Education Terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) in Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field.
Required Experience Demonstrated expertise in pharmacology principles and their clinical applications. Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or medical school level.
The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
