Position Highlights

The School of Anthropology invites applications for a 9-month appointment Career Track (Non-Tenure Eligible) Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice position with scholarly, field, and teaching expertise in applied archaeology. This faculty position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both academic and professional training in cultural resource management, applied research practices, and community-engaged research. Strong candidates for this position will hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field, bring a demonstrated commitment to supporting and engaging students, and have strong pedagogical abilities in experiential and applied learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Duties:

Course Development and Instruction

  • Develop and teach four master's-level courses in a topic related to applied archaeology.
  • Develop and teach one master's-level capstone course.
  • Supervise internships of students enrolled in the M.A. in Anthropology with an emphasis in applied archaeology.

Administrative and Service Duties

  • Serve as the academic advisor for students in the Master of Anthropology program with an emphasis in applied archaeology.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator between internship partners (community, government, or private organizations) and the Master of Anthropology program.
  • Contribute to advancing the academic mission of School of Anthropology through departmental service and outreach activities, including potential collaborations on grants, awards, partnerships, or other activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and expertise in two or more of the subjects of: cultural resource management, archaeological theory, anthropological ethics, and applied archaeology.
  • Field experience in the archaeology of North America.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience with new course development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related discipline and five or more years of professional experience related to applied archaeology, and field experience in the archaeology of North America.
