The Department of Emergency Medicine is one of the oldest academic departments of emergency medicine in the country, founded in 1990 with Dr. Douglas Rund as the inaugural chair. Through 2016, we have had 286 graduates of our residency program, now practicing across the country. Research is a core mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine with investigator support from multiple NIH and industry grants spanning clinical, basic science and translational research realms. We are a growing, vibrant department composed of dedicated and accomplished faculty, bright energetic residents and fellows and a supportive administrative team.

Our strategic plan for growth is focused on health-related themes that leverage collaborative ties with colleagues in the Colleges of Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Sciences, Dentistry, and Optometry -- all on the same campus. The combined technical, core, and clinical research facilities of the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Ohio Supercomputer Center and an NIH-sponsored Center for Clinical and Translational Science provide unique and comprehensive resources for biomedical engineering research and education at Ohio State.

Our basic science and translational research domain expertise spans regenerative medicine, molecular medicine, biomaterials, molecular, cellular, tissue Engineering and biomedical micro/nano technology. There is an emphasis on applying these domains to address human cardiovascular, diabetes, and musculoskeletal disorders.

The Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure-track) will:

Complement and expand our existing cardiovascular and bioengineering expertise with demonstrated research interests in Myocardial Infarction/Cardiac Repair & Regeneration/Cellular Reprogramming/Bioengineering/ Heart failure/Cardiovascular disease/Stroke.

In addition to a strong record of research potential and accomplishment, high-impact publications, and extramural peer reviewed funding, the Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure-track) will be expected to demonstrate interest and accomplishment in teaching and have an earned doctoral degree and experience with medical science applications. Preferred qualifications include experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams, and experience mentoring members of underrepresented groups. We plan to invite selected applicants for interviews as early as Summer/Fall 2025; however, the search will continue until the position is filled. Salary will be commensurate with the candidates qualifications.

Essential Duties

  • 85%: Supports scientific investigation to study cardiovascular disease/heart failure/cardiac regeneration. Independently writes and submit grants for NIH/AHA/NSF, publish manuscripts in high impact journals, present research work at national and international meeting, Ad-hoc NIH/AHA study sections, develops new and on-going collaborative research opportunities with faculty members in the Department of Emergency Medicine, DHLRI and OSU, participate in research seminars/symposiums, attend faculty meetings, and maintain extramural funding.
  • 10%: Training and mentoring undergraduate, graduate students, medical students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and research scientists.
  • 5%: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in pharmacy, regenerative medicine, physiology, and cell biology.

Desired Qualifications

Applicants with demonstrated success in securing R01/K99 funding.
