General Schedule:
Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm in-office at UCO’s main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma, some nights and weekends may be required.
Position Overview:
Develop, implement, and manage institutional monitoring systems, policies and procedures for compliance of NCAA, institution, and conference bylaws. Instructs and provides interpretations to the University, Athletics Department, Alumni, and other Representatives of Athletics Interests on NCAA Rules and Regulations. Responsible for monitoring procedures for athletic recruiting, institutional sports camps/clinics, awards and benefits, playing and practice sessions and championships and postseason for 15 intercollegiate sports and all prospective student-athletes. Conduct a comprehensive rules education program. Examine and assist with financial aid and eligibility certification procedures by institutional offices.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
- Conducts a comprehensive rules education program.
- Establishes and refines institutional monitoring systems, policies and procedures for compliance with NCAA, institution, and conference bylaws.
- Instructs and provides interpretations to the University, Athletics Department, Alumni, and other Representatives of Athletics Interests on NCAA Rules and Regulations.
- Serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics.
- Process all, and assist in, investigations of reported NCAA, University, or Conference rules violations as they relate to intercollegiate athletics.
- Examines and assists with financial aid and eligibility certification procedures by institutional offices.
- Administers and facilitates the Athletics Financial Aid Agreements (AFAA).
- Maintains oversight over all aspects of recruiting legislation and playing & practice seasons, maximum contest limitations, and participation activities including, but not limited to, phone calls, text messages, emails, written correspondence, camps/clinics, on-campus evaluations, recruiting calendars, official visits, and unofficial visits, outside competition, scholarships, complimentary admissions, and competition schedules.
- Liaison to General Counsel for athletic department contractual agreements and volunteer staff documentation.
- Oversight of designated sports under the direction of the Athletic Director.
- Manages complimentary ticket requests and assists with home game ticket operations.
- Facilitates processing of NCAA, Institutional, and, or conference reports.
- Co-facilitates the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and actively participates and promotes student-athlete driven initiatives.
- Directs and assists with student-athlete welfare programming relevant to student-athletes.
- Oversees the Student Athlete Affairs and Development Program for the Athletics Department within the guidelines of the NCAA, Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, and the University of Central Oklahoma.
- Assists in coordinating student-athlete orientation.
- Works closely with campus offices who provide various services to students.
- Assists in the preparation and production of educational materials, reports, handbooks, and compliance manuals for coaches, staff and student-athletes.
- Supervises any Compliance undergraduate/graduate student internships or volunteers.
- Serves as a liaison to coaches, faculty, staff, and student-athletes.
- Maintenance of student-athlete Compliance files.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and works as a cooperative/supportive team member in the UCO Athletic Department.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) required. Experience must provide knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts of collegiate sports programs. Requires the application of expertise in rules compliance to achieve results.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
The ideal candidate will have experience in rules compliance and athletics administration, preferably at the collegiate level. Master’s and/or Juris Doctorate degree and 3-5 or more years NCAA rules compliance preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Computer proficiency preferably in Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and interact professionally with all segments of the University community. Good supervisory, report preparation, training, and project management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to make policy and procedure decisions. Must be detail oriented. Communicates effectively with a culturally diverse population.
