Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer position works within the Athletic Department's comprehensive Sports Medicine Program while ensuring the health and safety of all student-athletes, with a direct focus on the Women's Basketball and Spirit Squads. The role includes assisting in the implementation of policies and programs to promote general student-athlete health and wellness and coordinating care with medical providers. This position is pivotal in maintaining the highest standards of medical care, compliance with NCAA regulations and ensuring a well-integrated health service approach for all student-athletes. This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the BIG 12 Conference, and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Sport coverage: Injury Prevention and Care:

  • Oversee the healthcare of Women's Basketball and Cheer student-athletes, focusing on injury prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
  • Serve as the first responder to assigned teams' injury situations, ensuring immediate and effective care.
  • Collaborate with team physicians, physician assistants, and other healthcare providers to meet the medical needs of the student-athletes.

Medical Records and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records for all assigned teams.
  • Track rehabilitation progress and update the coaching staff regularly on the status of injured student-athletes.
  • Ensure seamless communication with the sports medicine staff, coaching staff, Strength and Conditioning coaches, and physicians regarding injury status and participation ability.

Rehabilitation and Insurance Management:

  • Collaborate closely with team physicians and physical therapists regarding rehabilitation protocols, therapy and treatment, and progress.
  • Work with the Medical Office Manager to secure comprehensive sports injury insurance.

Health and Welfare Oversight:

  • Maintain continuous communication with the Head Coach regarding all health and welfare matters of Women's Basketball and Cheer Squad student-athletes.
  • Communicate with Strength and Conditioning Coaches to assess each student-athlete's health and ability to participate in training sessions.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Trainers, Nutritionists and Dietitians, and Sports Psychologists, ensuring alignment within the department.

Injury Tracking and Reporting:

  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date injury records.
  • Provide injury reports to the coaching staff and collaborate on decisions regarding student-athlete participation.
  • Work with the Sports Science Department to identify data that can assist with injury prevention and athletic performance.

Off-Season Conditioning:

  • Work with the athletic training staff to ensure NCAA-mandated coverage of all off-season conditioning sessions and non-traditional seasons.

Health and Safety Education:

  • Coordinate and administer health and safety education programs for assigned coaches and Strength and Conditioning coaches, ensuring all personnel are informed about best practices for student-athlete health and injury prevention.

Physician Care Coordination:

  • Coordinate and manage physician care for assigned student-athletes, ensuring timely access to specialists and appropriate medical interventions when necessary.

Administration:

  • Serve as coordinator of CPR/First Aid for coaches
  • Serve on the Student-Athlete Wellness Team
  • Sports Medicine Website
  • Student education: Serve as an instructor for graduate students in athletic training internships by developing a structured experiential learning curriculum, guiding the transition from theory to practice, and assessing core competencies

Student intern program:

  • Assist in the supervision of individuals in the sports medicine intern program, which includes teaching and evaluation.

Departmental Responsibilities: (continual)

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of NCAA, BIG 12 Conference, University and departmental rules and regulations. The violation of NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department Personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Adhere to principles stated in the Athletic Department's Mission Statement and promote loyalty to the mission by all staff and student-athletes under their supervision.

What We Can Offer

Starting salary range is $75,000 - $85,000.Additional Compensation Details:

  • Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines

  • Supplemental camp pay: per Athletic Department Summer Camp Policy.

What We Require

  • Master's degree in a health-related field. Three years of athletic training experience at the collegiate or professional level. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • NATABOC certification
  • State of Colorado Athletic Training License or eligible to obtain
  • CPR/AED Certification
