South Dakota State University (SDState) is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach to help compliment a strong and competitive Division I program and shape the next generation of standout student‑athletes. This role offers the chance to recruit top talent, teach the game at a high level, and mentor young women as they grow on the field, in the classroom, and in life.

This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position located in Brookings, SD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

This position will assist the head softball coach and other staff with maintaining a competitive Division I women’s softball program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruiting and retaining top level student-athletes; to assist in teaching softball and life skills that will allow softball student-athletes to be successful on and off the field as well as in the classroom as well as administrative duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Earned Bachelor’s degree by application date;
  • Minimum of one year of collegiate softball coaching or 2 years as a graduate assistant at an NCAA DI or DII level;
  • Commitment to promote an atmosphere of compliance and adherence to institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations;
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, interpersonal); and
  • Proven career path.
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Earned Master’s degree
  • Division I coaching experience
  • Infield and outfield development experience
  • Demonstrated ability of student-athlete recruitment process;
  • Experience with player development
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Experience with softball administrative duties (i.e. travel, scheduling, camps, equipment/apparel, compliance, academics)
