Primary Purpose of PositionThe Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS ) at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking applicants for the position of assistant dean for student success. The Assistant Dean for Student Success serves as a member of the college leadership team and supports all aspects of the student success functions of the college. Responsibilities include directing, developing, and facilitating programs for expanded professional development, career progression, and interdisciplinary educational initiatives.
The Assistant Dean is responsible for leading and developing the student success plan, engaging in examination of student success challenges, designing and developing ideas and initiatives, and formulating interventions that enhance students’ overall academic success and student engagement initiatives within the College. The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Director of Advising, Student Support Specialists, and Department Chairs to promote and enhance the educational experiences of HCHHS students. The position reports to the Dean of the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences.
The Assistant Dean is expected to have thorough working knowledge of all policies and procedures applicable to all University constituents – students, faculty, staff, and community members, with particular emphasis on application of knowledge to issues of student matriculation and progression toward degree and career placement. The successful candidate will be adept at interpreting the faculty role in building a comprehensive slate of resources that bridge the student classroom, extramural, and transactional engagements with the University. This position may teach college success courses. This position will also develop collegial working liaisons with other divisions, departments, faculty, staff, and students on campus to provide additional career and professional development opportunities and promote awareness to those opportunities on campus. This position will be expected to identify and participate in development of grant proposals that support activities and programs that promote professional development and academic success to targeted groups, and disseminating career development information, acting as the focal point for referral and integration of departmental advising.

The John R and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences offers baccalaureate degree programs in Communications Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management ( HSM ), Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. The College is also home to three masters level graduate programs; MS Health Psychology, MS in Social Work, and MS in Physician Assistant Studies, and three doctoral level graduate programs; PhD in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, and Doctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ). Through innovative programs, high impact, and student-centered pedagogy, faculty in the college foster an inter-professional learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students. Minimum Requirements- A terminal/doctoral degree in student personnel, education administration, counseling or related field and
- Six years of progressively responsible job-related experience advising college students or developing student success programs, and assessing student and institutional outcomes.
- Flexibility in work schedule (e.g., travel and some evening/weekend work) required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team of professionals.
- Ability to meet high goals and to interact effectively with faculty and administrators in a research university. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty on a range of issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree and more than five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, collegiate academic and career advising.
- A team-oriented, collaborative decision maker with effective communication and problem-solving skills.
