Department Summary
The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences provides strategic leadership for all aspects of the undergraduate student experience. This role oversees academic advising for undergraduate students at the college, ensuring high-quality support, effective academic policies, and coordinated student services. As a member of the Dean's Executive Team, the Assistant Dean partners closely with faculty, department leaders, professional advisors, and senior university administrators to strengthen undergraduate education and address student needs across the College.
The position also provides operational and policy oversight, including academic standing, degree completion, and compliance with university and college requirements. The Assistant Dean manages staff, directs key processes such as student records and curricular review, and stewards an annual budget. In addition, the role contributes to strategic priorities, including retention and student success initiatives, and represents the College on university-wide committees that shape the undergraduate experience.
Position Profile
Assists and empowers students to achieve academic success and social adjustment through a variety of student support activities. Coordinates services including academic tutoring, student learning centers, life skills support and coaching, etc. Shares resources with students through engagement and outreach opportunities.
Level Summary
Oversees the strategic planning and execution of diverse activities within a larger functional area of the institution. Leads and directs significant programs through subordinate managers, setting overall strategies and objectives for the area. Contributes to the development of University-wide strategies. Accountable for ensuring that long-term goals are met and communicating the department's alignment with institutional objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages multiple departments or functions. Directly oversees at least 2.0 FTE employees or one or more supervisors. Has authority to hire, transfer, suspend, promote, manage performance, discharge, assign duties, reward, and discipline employees.
Fiscal Responsibilities
Responsible for large-scale budgets and strategic fiscal management for multiple work units or large academic unit.
Problem Solving
Handles significant organizational problems, often with long-term impact.
Independence of Action
Operates with significant autonomy, drives company-wide initiatives.
Communication and Collaboration
Influences and collaborates with senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders to drive organizational goals.
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Master's degree in a related field, 10 or more years of related professional experience, and 7 or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a closely related field.

Pay Rate: The approved hiring range for this position is $80,593 to $108,801. Salary is commensurate with the selected candidate's education and experience while considering internal equity.
