The Assistant Director for Student Organizations provides leadership and strategic direction for the student organization community and associated trainings, programs, resources, and services. This role supervises two full-time coordinators, a student manager, and a graduate student associate, collectively supporting a community of more than 1,400 registered student organizations. The Assistant Director leads strategic initiatives and projects, oversees budget and assessment, and supports team operations. With a strong emphasis on partnerships and collaboration, this position builds relationships with campus stakeholders, supports faculty and staff advisors, and represents Student Life and the Student Organization Team on committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision 40%
    • Supervises full-time staff and supports their work:
      • Coordinator of Student Organizations and Involvement oversees annual organization registration, trainings, workshops, Involvement Fairs, communications, coaching services, and supervision of 10-12 undergraduate student employees
      • Coordinator of the Keith B. Key Center for Student Leadership and Service manages Resource Room operations, student organization office/locker tenants, Coca-Cola Donation Program, KBK Center events, and supervision of 20-25 undergraduate student employees
    • Supervises specialized part-time student staff, including an undergraduate projects manager and graduate student associate (.25FTE)
    • Seasonally supervises 5-10 undergraduate student employees for the Get Involved program during summer orientation
    • Provides leadership for the Student Organization Team through strategic planning, team meetings, budget management, assessment, and annual reporting.
  • Partnerships and Programs 30%
    • Maintains relationships with student organization campus partners (e.g., academic departments, Student Life colleagues) and contributes to Student Life initiatives (e.g. Regional Campus connections, Campus Programmers meetings, BuckeyeThon Advisory Board)
    • Serves on the Council on Student Affairs (CSA) Allocations Committee, advising on the Student Organization Guidelines, evaluating funding requests, and liaising between CSA and the department
    • Coordinates staff/faculty advisor support including trainings, engagement events, and advisor consultations
    • Manages an incentive engagement program including community outreach, reward administration, program evaluation, and collaboration
    • Supports graduate/professional student organization engagement including co-planning the annual Graduate and Professional Student Involvement and Resource Fair
    • Supports Get Involved initiatives and programs across campus
    • Coordinates student organization awards for Student Lifes annual Leadership Awards program
  • Project Management 25%
    • Develops and leads projects supporting Student Organization Team goals, including website updates and enhancements to the Student Organization Management System
    • Meets with Student Life Marketing, Technology Services, the Center for the Study of Student Life, and other university teams to advance projects
    • Monitors and reports project progress to stakeholders and department leadership
  • Miscellaneous 5%
    • Attends department meetings
    • Contributes to department strategic planning efforts
    • Other duties as assigned

Required and Desired Education and Experience:

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; 2 years of professional experience with Student Activities, student engagement, or similar responsibilities; program planning and project administration experience

Desired: Master's degree in higher education and student affairs or related field; experience working with student organizations; experience supervising and coaching staff; experience working at a large collegiate institution

Pay Range: $47,700-$62,300
