Scope of Job:
Responsible for planning, organizing, and daily oversight of university data processing systems within the Data Center Services department. Provides advanced knowledge of area function procedures to ensure improvement of business processes and strategies through development, implementation, and maintenance of effective information technology systems and services.
Description of Duties:
- Assists the Director in managing and coordinating planning and production activities of the department.
- Responsible for the daily oversight of assigned area including prioritizing, scheduling, report processing and distribution.
- Assist the Director in setting direction to ensure that services and infrastructure environment are responsive to the academic needs of faculty, students, and staff.
- Confers with department representatives involved with IT projects to ensure cooperation and further define the nature of the project.
- Assesses future information requirements and develops goals and objectives.
- Analyzes operations and equipment problems, identifies timely and cost-effective solutions, participates in decision making, and implements changes.
- Coordinates and prepares reports to inform administration of project development and any deviation from project goals.
- Participates in decisions concerning personnel staffing, training, promotion, evaluation, and supervision.
- Oversees assigned budget and actively participates in departmental strategic planning.
- Coordinates and recommends equipment acquisitions.
- Analyzes data requirements and data flow and recommends projects or improvements as needed.
- Assists the Director with developing long-range goals and objectives.
- Transmits data for state and federal auditing purposes.
- Keeps abreast of electronic data processing technology and equipment.
- Identifies and oversees appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
- Manages the Database Administration Services for Oracle based systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
General direction from the assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of all assigned staff.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication, Computer Information Systems or related field.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication, Computer Information Systems or related field
Licenses/Certifications:
None.
Required Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in computer systems, data analysis, database development or related functional area of computing services, including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Proven experience demonstrating in depth understanding of the operation of data center, implementation/operation/development of information systems, and project management.
Preferred Experience:
Experience installing and supporting hardware/software, network and telephone systems in a multi-protocol environment. Experience managing Oracle Database Administration Services, Oracle's eBusiness Suite, HR/Financial System and Banner Student System.
Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.
Other:
Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operation, database administration, computer software/hardware, information security, and management of information systems. Knowledge of directory services and remote access tools. Ability to work on concurrent multiple projects under pressure of rigid deadlines and/or time limitations. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strategic and critical thinking skills, and the ability to determine and manage the delivery of solutions to complex issues.
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
