Essential Job Duties:
Join NC State’s Women’s Center as an Assistant Director and play a key role in fostering a culture of belonging, prevention, and support for all students. In this role, you’ll help shape a campus community grounded in respect and care leading initiatives that prevent interpersonal violence (IPV) and empower students, faculty, and staff through education, collaboration, and advocacy. The schedule will vary and will regularly include nights and weekends.What You’ll Do
Lead Impactful Programs & Strategic InitiativesYou’ll design and deliver innovative, evidence-informed programs focused on preventing interpersonal violence, including sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and harassment. This includes:
- Leading signature IPV prevention programs and educational initiatives
- Building strong campus and community partnerships
- Using research, campus data, and student feedback to guide your work
- Managing projects from concept to evaluation with a focus on impact and accessibility
- Supporting strategic planning, assessment, and reporting efforts
Support & Develop Student LeadersYou’ll mentor and supervise a team of student peer educators and interns, helping them grow as leaders and advocates. You will:
- Recruit, hire, train, and coach student staff
- Assign and monitor student hours based on available budget
- Provide meaningful professional development opportunities
- Offer ongoing feedback and performance evaluations
- Ensure students are equipped with knowledge of resources, reporting processes, and best practices
Build Community & Foster Belonging Collaboration is central to this role. You’ll work with campus partners to create supportive spaces and programs that meet varied student needs. You will:
- Partner with faculty, staff, and campus units to deliver relevant programming
- Ensure initiatives are intersectional, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed
- Provide survivor-centered support, resources, and referrals as needed
- Facilitate educational workshops and presentations for students, faculty, and staff via programs such as New Student Orientation, the Pack Survivor Support Alliance and other requested engagement opportunities
Drive Outreach & CommunicationYou’ll help amplify IPV prevention efforts through thoughtful outreach and messaging:
- Develop and manage media and general marketing and communication strategies for IPV initiatives and programs
- Contribute to newsletters, campaigns, and campus publications
- Support outreach efforts that engage a wide range of student populations
Contribute as a Team MemberAs part of the Women’s Center team, you’ll play an active role in shaping programs and operations:
- Participate in planning, budgeting, data collection, and assessment efforts
- Assist with hiring professional and student staff
- Support broader center initiatives and priorities

- Experience applying theory to practice in higher education or related settings
- Strong collaboration, communication, and program management skills
- The ability to deliver engaging, tailored education to varied audiences
Other Responsibilities:
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in higher education, social work, women’s studies, counselor education, or a related area of study.
- At least two years of relevant experience within higher education or related setting;
- Content-area knowledge including a thorough understanding of IPV prevention education, support, and ability to work with survivors of all genders, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.
- An understanding of intersectionality within women’s center spaces.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Application of intersectionality, as well as women’s and gender issues in program planning and implementation.
- Demonstrated work or volunteer history of commitment to student development, student success, and knowledge of best practices for advising student leaders and student organizations.
- Demonstrated success in program assessment, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Experience with strategic planning.
- Experience in creating program-level spending plans and adhering to best fiscal practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to support identity-based concerns.
- Supervision, advising, and/or volunteer management experience of student staff.
- Experience, individually and collaboratively, in developing, facilitating, assessing/evaluating training, workshops, or presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with implementing outcome based student success programming within a higher education setting including working within a women’s identity based organization within a university is strongly preferred.
- An advanced application of intersectional frameworks and a trauma-informed approach/practice.
- Demonstrate practical familiarity with discourse and theories about student success, well being, and other relevant concepts.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current and relevant knowledge of best practices in supporting students in an academic setting.
