Job Description

The Assistant Director of Communications & Content Creation is an experienced, editorially driven communications professional who leads institutional storytelling across digital, video, print, and social platforms. This role combines strategic communications, narrative development, and multimedia content production to elevate Manhattanville University's brand, strengthen institutional visibility, and authentically engage students, alumni, faculty, and the broader community.

Serving as a primary editorial voice for the University, the Assistant Director translates institutional priorities into compelling, cohesive stories while ensuring consistency in tone, message, and quality across all channels. The role works in close partnership with brand, design, and other colleagues to align visual execution with editorial strategy and institutional standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Communications, Editorial Strategy & Public Relations
  • Develop and execute clear, engaging written content for the University's website, email campaigns, press releases, print publications, and select social media channels.
  • Draft press releases, media pitches, talking points, and external communications in support of institutional announcements, leadership initiatives, and campus milestones.
  • Support internal communications that promote university initiatives, events, and priorities in collaboration with academic and administrative partners.
  • Contribute editorial storytelling for alumni communications, advancement initiatives, and institutional publications.
  • Monitor media coverage, peer institutions, and higher education communication trends to inform storytelling and outreach strategies.
  • Support communications planning and execution for university events, programs, and special initiatives.
  • Ensure all written and multimedia content reflects Manhattanville University's approved voice, values, and messaging framework.
Content Creation & Multimedia Storytelling
  • Plan, produce, and edit video and multimedia content for use across web, email, social, paid campaigns, and digital advertising.
  • Capture high-quality photography and video to support institutional storytelling, media relations, and campus communications.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, alumni, and community partners to create authentic, narrative-driven content.
  • Track performance metrics as outlined by Director of Marketing and Communications and platform trends to inform editorial decisions and content strategy.
  • Manage and organize digital media assets in coordination with brand and design systems.
  • Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Graphic Design & Brand Management to ensure visual assets align with university brand standards.
  • Lead and mentor student creators, ensuring strong editorial direction and content quality.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as a key communications partner to Enrollment, Advancement, Alumni Relations, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs.
  • Collaborate with brand, design, and web colleagues to ensure clarity of ownership and efficient execution across initiatives.
  • Bring structure, planning, and follow-through content development from concept through execution.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong editorial judgment and storytelling ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
  • Proficiency with DSLR cameras, audio equipment, and multimedia production tools.
  • Ability to analyze performance metrics and apply insights to content strategy.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, digital media, or related field.

Experience:
  • Five to seven years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, content creation, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing editorial calendars, content workflows, and analytics.
  • Experience with photography, video production, and multimedia storytelling required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
  • Ability to operate photography and video equipment.

Salary:

The annual salary for this position is $66,300

Hours Expectation:

Full-time, 35 hours per week
