Position Summary
Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an empathetic and innovative individual to serve as Assistant Director of Digital Strategy who demonstrates an enthusiasm for understanding website user journey through key performance indicators and developing website user experience through thoughtful design, ensuring website accessibility for diverse audiences. Gettysburg College is a highly selective, residential undergraduate liberal arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,200 students. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Digital Engagement.
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director is to help advance the national visibility of the College in the marketplace through maintenance and development of the primary College website: a foundational platform to which all strategic communications by the College point. The person in this role will be a standards bearer for website usability and accessibility, primarily focusing on the strategic design and placement of web content that enhances positioning of the website in search, engages website visitors, and reinforces the College's key marketing messages and brand.
The Assistant Director of Digital Strategy is 12-month, full-time administrative appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience and is complemented by an excellent benefits package. Responsibilities include:
High-quality presence for the primary College website and all related websites
- Coordinate, create, and update website content accurately and effectively.
- Stay current on best practices to ensure excellent user experience.
- Stay current on accessibility guidelines and best practices to ensure that site content is accessible to user audiences.
- Stay current on search and generative engine optimization best practices to maximize reach.
Policies and guidelines
- Assist in establishing and enforcing web content policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Assist in the development and implementation of SEO / GEO strategy and advise campus collaborators on best practices and guidelines.
- Maintain and review all website content to ensure that meets the College's standards for quality and style and conforms to the institution's brand image and key messages.
Collaboration
- Moderate content submitted by contributors to ensure adherence to College standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Communications & Marketing and other College departments and offices to contribute to integrated strategies for optimizing College-owned digital experiences and for effectively elevating relevant messaging.
Analytics and reporting
- Generate reports and analyze performance analytics data to inform work on website.
- Contribute to the collection and use of website analytics to support strategic decision making in the work of campus partners.
Qualifications
Minimum of an associate degree in liberal arts, marketing, communications, or related field with 1 - 3 years of communications experience is required. Also required are experience with content management systems; knowledge of HTML, Java, and CSS; knowledge of A/B testing; experience with Adobe Photoshop; experience in higher education environment; expertise in web usability and accessibility; experience using analytics platforms to understand performance and to adjust strategies in response; ability to identify target audiences and engage them effectively; knowledge of effective digital advertising through search; ability to work effectively in time-sensitive situations and pivot in response to emergent circumstances; ability to develop projects independently and work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team; outstanding project management skills; ability to build strong relationships; excellent written and verbal skills; strong customer service skills; superb proofreading skills; demonstration of innovative problem solving, adaptability, and responsiveness. While professional experience is preferred, internship experience may be considered for otherwise strong applicants.
Skills in photography, video-editing, and leadership are preferred in the optimal candidate, but not required.
