Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Office of Admissions' primary goal is to recruit, admit, and enroll students who will thrive within our collegiate community. This unit oversees the entire process, from recruitment to enrollment.
Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The Assistant Director of First Year Admissions focuses on the recruitment of highly qualified first-year students and will serve as senior leadership in the Office of Admissions and assist the Associate Director of First Year Admissions with coordinating a comprehensive recruitment plan. This position will manage a recruitment territory, including travel, communication with prospective students, parents and school administrators, and review applications for undergraduate admission. Additionally, the position will participate in admissions committees and apply university admission standards, policies, and regulations in a holistic fashion to the credentials of prospective students to determine their admissibility. This role will also manage a merit scholarship budget, coordinate scholarship awarding for prospective first-year students, and participate in ongoing training of the scholarship system.
The Assistant Director of First Year Admissions will coordinate and organize recruitment travel schedules, including organizing campus updates and providing travel season training, responding to all recruitment event invitations, and managing the Trips feature in Slate. In addition, this role will collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop on and off-campus presentations for recruitment and yield events and will provide edits and testing during the application development phase in Slate and the Common Application.
The Assistant Director of First Year Admissions will supervise multiple First Year Admissions Coordinators, and encourage the excellence of these professional staff members. This includes identifying professional development opportunities and providing ongoing training for the professional staff that will fall under direct supervision.
Other duties as assigned related to the organization's vision, mission, and values.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- A minimum of 3 years in college/university admissions
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Master's Degree.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Thorough understanding of post-secondary education systems.
- Proven track record that demonstrates exceptional skills in organization, communication, management, collaboration, interpersonal relations and the ability to effectively manage competing, conflicting demands.
- Proven record of building strong and positive working relationships with peers and organizations, including community and military partners.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with other offices, university staff and faculty.
- High commitment to service excellence.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required Certifications or Licensures: Valid NC Driver's License
