Assistant Facility Manager | Comparative Bioscience Center
Organization Overview
The Comparative Bioscience Center (CBC) provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
Overview
The Assistant Facility Manager oversees the operational and administrative functions of facility personnel to ensure seamless daily operations. This role aligns departmental objectives with the overall goals of the CBC by promoting efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities, tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate facility operations and personnel to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements as well as safety and health regulations
- Oversee and manage each of the following teams: Husbandries, Cage-wash's, and Office Admins
- Support staff development through supervision, coaching, training, and performance feedback
- Collaborate with the CBC staff and laboratory members to identify and resolve operational issues promptly and efficiently
- Evaluate, maintain, and enforce cleanliness, biosecurity, and safety protocols across all facility areas
- Prepare accurate reports, schedules, and necessary documentation to support informed decision-making and operational planning
- Use Lean Management and Six Sigma principles to streamline operations and drive continuous improvement
- Assist with budgeting, resource allocation, and operational forecasting as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree required
- A minimum of five (5) years of prior experience in a similar operational leadership role
- Strong knowledge and understanding of safety regulations, compliance standards, and animal facility operations
- Ability to read and understand complex scientific documents such as research protocols, regulations, and policies
- Demonstrate leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, resolve issues, and make sound decisions under pressure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Biology, Animal Science, or related field preferred
- AALAS LATG Certification required, and CMAR is preferred
- Six Sigma Lean Management Black Belt certification is highly desired
