Assistant Manager (Operations)
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Manager (Operations) for the Department of Physics and Astronomy within the School of Arts and Sciences. The Assistant Manager (Operations) serves as the department's central authority for procurement, facilities coordination, inventory management, building access control, and logistical operations across four buildings that house multimillion-dollar research infrastructure and support hundreds of faculty, staff, and students. Working closely with the Director of Administration, Finance, and Operations, the Assistant Manager (Operations) partners with Rutgers Procurement, Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O), the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), and Public Safety on contract processing, capital planning, and compliance matters.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Manages high-volume purchasing, stockroom operations, shipping and receiving, coordinating work orders, and the full lifecycle of capital equipment inventory.
- Administers departmental building access control systems to maintain security and accountability.
- Supports the Department of Physics & Astronomy in sustaining its instructional, research, and administrative missions effectively.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in procurement and operational coordination within a complex organization or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education in business administration, supply chain, logistics, or related field.
Equipment Utilized:
Pallet jack, hand truck, inventory management software, SciQuest Marketplace, surplus entry system, Microsoft Office Suite, and shipping portals.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs.
Use of carts and hand trucks.
Ability to work in labs with fragile or high-value scientific equipment.
Time spent in office, shipping bay, stockroom, and building spaces.
Ability to receive shipments in inclement weather.
